DISCO IN ATLANTIS

The collection was first inspired by reflections of light and colour presented atop London’s canals and led to a deeper investigation of the interaction between water and colour. With a strong focus on the sustainability of craft embroidery techniques including tambour beading, goldwork and hand weaving techniques. This attention to craft processes is counteracted throughout the collection by the use of modern digital techniques, including laser cutting and computer embroidery, allowing for a more experimental and playful process. The collection references the 70’s disco scene focused in New York at the infamous club Studio 54, the rich materials of this era led the collection to be obsessive of metallic, with only metallic finish materials used throughout. With a nod to my own Italian heritage and adoration of Italian style, the glamorous nature and finish of the collection also shows references to Italian couture.
